Alan, his family

and

Why run for WMWD?

I grew up in Corona, CA and graduated from Corona High School in the 90's. After, I attended college in Oklahoma, I returned to California where I began working for the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California ("MWD"), and have continued to work, for the past 15 years. MWD is a wholesale water agency which was formed in the 1920's to provide imported, treated water to cities and water agencies within Southern California. Today, MWD provides a significant amount of water to agencies such as Western Municipal Water District ("WMWD or Western")

I began my career with MWD in 2003 as a Engineering Tech working in SCADA, then as a Industrial Maintenance Mechanic ("Millwright") at a Water Treatment Plant in Yorba Linda, CA. Fast forward to today, I now work as a Water Operations Planner/Scheduler. MWD provides Western MWD with a significant amount of water Western delivers to our homes.  Working on, and maintaining, water infrastructure at MWD has provided me with unique insight into the world of water including, water rates, supplies and operations.

I am blessed to be married to my best-friend, Jenny. My wife and I have two children and live in the Woodcrest area of Riverside. My wife Jenny grew up in Santa Maria, CA, is a moderate-severe Special Education Teacher for Beaumont Unified School District. Our two children, Kyleigh (15) and Aidan (12) both attend RUSD schools. Our daughter is very active in Marching Band and riding horses, our son is a Civil Air Patrol Cadet at March Air Reserve Base.

We moved to Woodcrest in 2016 and truly love and care about our neighborhood. We have been disappointed by the lack of representation by WMWD Division 2 after being a customer of Eastern MWD for 9 years prior to moving to Woodcrest. I really decided to run for Western after hundreds of customers turned out for the rate increase Board Meeting in 2017 and the Board members completely disregarded the objections of the customers.

It was even more disturbing to learn that four of the five Directors homes are not in the Western MWD service area, they do not pay Western MWD bills or feel the impacts of their decisions. There is three candidates running for this seat, I am the only one who lives in a home serviced by Western MWD. We cannot let this happen again, we need true representation!

When elected, I will remain accessible by email, phone, and in person. I will make sure that meetings occur in our communities, customers are engaged, and my votes reflect the concerns of customers. I will personally attend community meetings such as Woodcrest MAC and others in the Division.

I respectfully ask for your vote November 6th, Alan Shanahan for Western Municipal Water District Division 2.
